It’s time for another week in comics from around the galaxy! Let’s see what the galaxy far far away has in store for us this week.
Star Wars #45
Mon Cala continues to be in the spotlight of Star Wars comics this week with part two of “Munity at Mon Cala”
“It is a period of rebuilding in the galaxy. After victory on Jedha thanks to Queen Trios betraying the Empire, Rebel leaders Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, and Han Solo continue the search for a new base of operation as they fight against the Galactic Empire’s reign.
Recently, that search has led them to the water world of Mon Cala. In a secret meeting with Grand Admiral Urtya, Leia tries to convince the leader of the Imperial-occupied planet to join their cause — to rebel against the tyrannical government that kidnapped their king so many years ago.
However, after an attack from an Imperial patrol, the Mon Calamari leader refuses to send his fleet to join the Rebellion for fear of further punishment for his people. It’s time for the Rebellion to change his mind….”
After part one of the series I am excited to see where this story goes. It is refreshing to see some of the beginnings of the overall Rebellion. Even though at this part in the saga we know that Mon Cala citizens have been a larger part of the Rebellion (ex: Raddus in Rogue One) it is important for us to see the growth of the Rebellion from a small band of people to a larger galaxy wide movement.
Poe Dameron #25
Poe Dameron seems to be a book quickly reaching it’s end. This week we see the series get a step closer to finding Lor San Tekka and wrapping up some lose ends.
“It’s the end of an era for Poe Dameron. With the Resistance and the First Order on a collision course and his mission to find Lor San Tekka nearly at an end, the force of Poe’s destiny draws him on toward an awakening.”
While this series has always had a predictable ending we have seen played out in The Force Awakens Marvel has done a great job at fleshing out not only Poe’s character but those around him.
This series has done a great job at giving more meat to the story of Black Squadron. For me this has been able to add a whole lot of meaning to these characters that do appear in The Force Awakens even just as background characters.
I look forward to seeing how the writers choose to wrap up this portion of Poe’s story and will always be thankful that this book was able to bring Mr. Bones back to us even if only for a short time.
