StarWars.com just broke the news this morning that a new Star Wars animated show is heading to our TV’s this fall. Star Wars Resistance will follow the lives of Resistance pilots before the events of The Force Awakens including cameos by fan favorite characters Poe Dameron and Captian Phasma.
Dave Filoni will oversee this project as well. He told StarWars.com that the idea had been floating around for a while.
“The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots” said Filoni. “My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.”
This series has been longed rumored as the next animated series after some fans found that Disney had been trademarking “Star Wars Resistance”. This is a series with huge potential and I hope follows a similar vein as the old X-Wing Squadron books.
With Filoni in charge of this project I am sure we will see some the smaller parts of the galaxy explored like we have in both Clone Wars and Rebels. A premier date was not announced today other than it will premier some time this fall on the Disney Channel.
