Obi Wan Movie Rumors Continue

The Star Wars stand alone movie that will not go away is that of an Obi Wan focused film. Rumors about this film becoming reality have been circling since Day 1 of the Disney acquisition of Lucasfilm. We will be doomed to discuss this movie until the day Disney finally confirm it.

Early this morning TMZ posted a report stating some new information about the rumored film. The first thing of note to mention in the report is that Stephen Daldry (Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close) has been attached to director the movie. Daldry’s name has been floated for a while but TMZ is reporting that it is a done deal.

TMZ also post the following plot synopsis about the movie claiming it will be an “immediate” prequel to a New Hope.

“Obi-Wan is on Tatooine being an elusive hermit and stuff, but secretly watches over an infant Luke Skywalker, whom he delivered to his uncle, Owen. Tensions between the local farmers and a tribe of Sand People — headed by a ruthless war chief — eventually brings Obi outta hiding … and into Jedi kickass mode. Scene.”

To round out the report TMZ states that the Obi Wan movie will use the same studio used to film The Last Jedi and will being filming early next spring.

At this point an Obi Wan film seems inevitable to happen in the near future. As a big fan of the Obi Wan journal stories we got in the ongoing Star Wars comic in the past there is clearly lots of stories to be told about Obi Wan’s time on Tatooine.

What do you guys think? Is an Obi Wan stand alone movie a good idea?
