Comics From Around the Galaxy: June 13, 2018

The Empire takes the spotlight this week in Star Wars comics with Darth Vader and Thrawn leading the way.

Darth Vader #17

Charles Soule wraps up his Mon Cala arc this week as we finally see Vader face off with surviving Jedi.

“As the remnants of the Mon Cala resistance crumble into the seas, Vader and his Inquisitors finally confront the Jedi survivor at its core. The seas will weep…”

As with every month this is the book I look this most forward to. Soule has done an amazing job of making Vader an even more menacing presence than he was in the movies. Any time a comic can add to the enjoyment of watching the movies it is doing the right thing.

Thrawn #5 (of 6)

The Thrawn adaptation releases it’s penultimate issue just a month before the new book.

“THE RISE OF THE GRAND ADMIRAL’ CONTINUES! Thrawn’s obsession and pursuit of the mysterious crime lord ‘Nightswan’ has led him to Batonn. But what his aide Eli Vanto hopes will be the final stand between the Empire and its enemies soon turns out to be nothing more than a trap…and Ensign Vanto is the bait!”

I have found this series the best way to refresh on what happened in the first Thrawn book with the sequel just around the corner. With so much Star Wars content coming out nowadays it can be tough to go back and reread something so this has been a great way to hit the high points of the previous books.
