Comics from Around the Galaxy: July 4, 2018

Star Wars hits a big comic book milestone this week in Comics from Around the Galaxy.

Star Wars #50

Any time a comic book series can hit 50 issues it is a big milestone. It is great to see that the Star Wars series was given this opportunity and it does not seem like they plan to waste the occasion. With issue #50 we see the start of the official bridge from A New Hope to The Empire Strikes Back.

IN THIS ISSUE…HOPE DIES. The REBEL FLEET is completed. It’s magnificent. It’s beautiful. It’s secret. But no secret is kept for long from DARTH VADER. The most epic story yet done in a STAR WARS comic begins here. Prepare to witness the Empire TRULY strike back.

We get to see the formation of the Rebel Fleet for the first time in the new canon and from all the interviews this is going to be one of the bigger stories that this series has tackled in its long run. I am extremely interested to see how Darth Vader will end up playing a role in this story due to Vader being the strongest character from any series thus far.

Another standout of this issue is the beautiful cover art from David Marquez. With the passing of Carrie Fisher I am immediately drawn to pieces of art that show not just the princess we know but the strong military leader that Leia was. This cover is the perfect embodiment of what the character is.
