The time has come. We have been given the official opening dates for Galaxy’s Edge in California and Florida. Like the rumors stated both parks will open earlier than previously announced. Galaxy’s Edge will open in Disneyland on May 31st and a few months late at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida on August 29th.
The most interesting thing coming out of this press release by Disney is not the opening dates but the fact that any guest planning to attend Galaxy’s Edge in California between the dates of May 31st and June 23rd will be required to obtain a no-cost reservation on top of having a paid ticket to the park. This seems to be put in place to help keep wait times down inside the parks. This method will not be required though when Galaxy’s Edge opens in Florida.
Another thing of interest is that only the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ride experience will be open when the park first opens to the public. The ride Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will open later in the year in the second phase of the park. Reasoning behind this seems to be so that they can open the parks earlier with the hope of staggering what will be large demand.
